Day of Mourning 2022

First Nations people look at American Thanksgiving and see a monument to genocide, uncritically celebrated. Many Indigenous people call it Day of Mourning, and they fast instead of feast. This legacy and how you benefit from it is not your fault, white people, but it is your responsibility. No one is coming to take away your turkey dinner, let alone your land, so it is up to you to decide what to do about it. Personally, I would love to see us all do the work to listen to native voices and reckon with the injustices we have inherited, Then, take steps to redress them, like paying reparations and putting indigenous people in charge of all our national parks.
